.MX Domain History & Purpose
The official ccTLD for Mexico has had an eventful past. Officially introduced back in 1989, it was later closed for registration. In 2009, it was made available again, initially to customers who had previously owned an .MX domain name. Later that year, the .MX ccTLD became open to the public.
Even with a turbulent past, the .MX extension is quickly becoming popular, with Mexico being one of the world’s largest economies, one of the Top 10 oil producers and one of the biggest countries in both North and South America. .MX domains names are great for accessing the large and lucrative Mexican market. Aside from that, they are highly sought-after, since the TLD itself is very easy to remember.
